The Slug & Lettuce

 Welcome back,

With the disappointing news from Nicola Sturgeon this week that the pubs will be temporarily closing in light of a rise in Covid-19 cases, this week we are throwing it back to where my original love for Long Island Iced teas stemmed.

It dates back to a few years ago and takes place in the classic cocktail venue; The Slug & Lettuce. The bar is renowned for its affordable and presentable looking cocktails and is the classic location for a girls night out. My first ever visit was to the George Street branch in Edinburgh. The place is always bustling with people and even has a DJ playing on weekends. The Slug & Lettuce is popular among all age groups and due to its consistent drinks promotion of either 50% off cocktails or 2 for the price of 1, students can often be found perusing the premises.

Their version of the Long Island Iced Tea is nothing short of a superb value for money (coming in at just under £5), not to mention out of all the Long Islands at all the bars, in all the cities that I have tried thus far, this one takes the top spot in terms of taste and flavour.

The ratio of alcohol is incredibly on point and one thing to praise is the moderate amount of ice used in the drink, just enough to keep the drink an ideal temperature, without taking away the room for the right measurement of mixer that makes the drink pleasurable to consume.

In terms of presentation, they use a tall glass, rather than the typical high-ball, however, in the grand scheme of things, it is not a defying factor in the presentation score. One thing The Slug & Lettuce can be credited for is consistency, the drinks look and taste almost identical at each venue I have visited.

Overall, the drink ranks extremely highly and is the one to beat for future competition.

Overall Rating:

-       Presentation: 4/5

-       Flavour: 5/5

-       Ratio of alcohol to mixer: 5/5

-       Value for money: 5/5
