An Introduction
Welcome to the hunt for the perfect Long Island Iced Tea.
A little bit of background on the drink; it was created in the 70’s at a bar in Long Island and despite the name, the drink does not contain any actual tea. It typically comprises of 5 different types of alcohol (vodka, tequila, triple sec, rum and gin) and a 'dash' of Coca-Cola, and is garnished with either a lemon or a lime. The cocktail is generally served in a high-ball glass due to its volume of liquid and for the purpose of this blog, pitchers will be excluded from this blog in order for a fair comparison to be made.
From previous experience, I can confirm that different variants of the cocktail exist, with some suave bartenders choosing to add their own flare with ingredients such as orange juice and crème de menthe. However, the novelty of a true and authentic Long Island lies in the original recipe.
A justified rating will be given to each drink, taking into account the following factors:
- Presentation
- Flavour
- Ratio of alcohol to mixer
- Value for money
This blog will not only consider the standard of said cocktail but also take into account the atmosphere and general experience of the venue. As a student it is vital that I consider the price and value for the money of the drink. This will mean I shall cap the MWP (Maximum Willing to Pay) at a sturdy £10. This should allow for a range of places to be visited and assessed. The perfect Long Island will prove difficult to find but as an avid cocktail drinker, I am committed to finding the best that Glasgow City can provide. First stop; The Ark.
Stay tuned.
