Here we go again, another instalment of the Search for the Best Long Island Iced Tea in Glasgow.
Now, with the government prolonging the suspension of bars and restaurants, it has truly put a spanner in the works for this blog.
However, I took the initiative to try and attempt to make my very own Long Island from home. Now for a lack of better words, I am a student and therefore, skint. Thus, when it came to purchasing the alcohol for the cocktail I just had to opt for the cheapest possible options.
Find below the full list of ingredients;
- Sierra Silver Tequila
- Sainsburys own brand Vodka
- Sainsburys own brand Gin
- Bacardi white rum
- Curacao Triple Sec
- Diet Coke
- Limes
Due to buying the ingredients in bulk, the price section of this review is difficult to determine. Although, overall, I am sure in the grand scheme of things, making any cocktail at home equates to a much cheaper night.
For starters, glassware is of an extreme shortage in our student flat, so we had to make use with a pretty standard tall glass. Unfortunately this did not do much for the overall presentation and it ended up looking pretty basic.
Another thing I was missing was an accurate measure for pouring the alcohol, this then admittedly made the process a bit of a trial and error and the three attempts I had were disasters, either containing too much of one alcohol or too little of another. The craft of the perfect Long Island is proving to be a difficult accomplishment.
In conclusion, it is safe to say I am in no way a bartender and should leave it to the professionals, but the process itself was a good bit of (semi) lockdown fun.
Overall Rating:
- Presentation: 2/5
- Flavour: 0/5
- Ratio of alcohol to mixer: 0/5
- Value for money: 4?/5
Now that is unfortunate
