  Here we go again, another instalment of the Search for the Best Long Island Iced Tea in Glasgow.   Now, with the government prolonging the suspension of bars and restaurants, it has truly put a spanner in the works for this blog.    However, I took the initiative to try and attempt to make my very own Long Island from home.   Welcome back,   With the disappointing news from Nicola Sturgeon this week that the pubs will be temporarily closing in light of a rise in Covid-19 cases, this week we are throwing it back to where my original love for Long Island Iced teas stemmed.   It dates back to a few years ago and takes place in the classic cocktail venue; The Slug & Lettuce. The bar is renowned for its affordable and presentable looking cocktails and is the classic location for a girls night out. My first ever visit was to the George Street branch in Edinburgh. The place is always bustling with people and even has a DJ playing on weekends.   Firstly, I visited The Ark, located on the North Frederick Street. The venue is typically known for being a student bar. The Monday evening should have been a quiz night but due to covid related reasons it was cancelled. However, this did not affect our overall experience. The service was prompt and friendly and in relevant terms; all covid regulations were clearly in place and well communicated upon entry.   The Long Island Iced Tea was pretty easy to find on their menu, albeit it was one of a mere 5 cocktail options. We ordered via the app and the total for one of the drinks was a very respectable £5.95. With the reputation of a student bar, it could be expected that the drinks that were somewhat affordable and well within budget.   When questioning the waiter about what actually went into their variation of the drink, he was happy to oblige and admitted they use a half shot of each of the 5 alcohols and top it up with Coca-Cola and ice.   Despite the ‘half-shot’...

  Welcome to the hunt for the perfect Long Island Iced Tea. A little bit of background on the drink; it was created in the 70’s at a bar in Long Island and despite the name, the drink does not contain any actual tea. It typically comprises of 5 different types of alcohol (vodka, tequila, triple sec, rum and gin) and a 'dash' of Coca-Cola, and is garnished with either a lemon or a lime. The cocktail is generally served in a high-ball glass due to its volume of liquid and for the purpose of this blog, pitchers will be excluded from this blog in order for a fair comparison to be made.
